A Final Post

It’s been a rollercoaster of a month and it is hard to find words to sum up the deep gratitude, sadness, excitement and hope I feel as I close the door of what was my office and leave my keys behind. My time at St. Augustine has been nothing short of extraordinary, and as I prepare to move into a new role, I find myself reflecting on the countless memories and moments that fill my heart and shape my journey.
I’ve had the privilege of greeting bright, sleepy-eyed bus students in the early hours, sharing morning smiles and conversations that start my day better than coffee ever could. I’ve had the honor of laughing with my students until my face ached, working with a dedicated school council, walking through challenges — navigating tough days and tough decisions. As a community, we have cried together, celebrated together, and held each other. We have grown!
There have been wins and losses — big and small, awards and suspensions, hospital visits and
provincial medals, forgotten shoes, ice packs, Masses and pretzel days. Every single moment has
mattered. From academic triumphs to personal breakthroughs, graduations and apologies, to simply watching a student, or staff member find their voice, sense of belonging — or purpose. It has been nothing short of amazing. Driving students across the province, from Grande Prairie to Lake Louise and everywhere in between has been gold. The conversations, the music, the food, the sing-alongs, the quiet reflection as we passed through Alberta’s landscapes and towns - moments, full of connection, curiosity, and joy.
Every age brings its own magic, its own wonder. The sheer breadth of connection — working with students from ages 3 to adulthood is a unique privilege in education. I have been asked, many times, “why?” As I reflect on all of it, I hold close a truth that has become even more real to me through my work and this community.
God loves us as we are, but too much to leave us this way. He meets us where we are, in our strengths and in our struggles, but He doesn’t stop there. He pushes, encourages and presents opportunities to stretch. Growth is rarely comfortable, and always worth it. The future meant for us is far bigger than the one we might imagine ourselves. And so: To our students: Thank you for trusting me, challenging me, and inviting me to be a part of your learning and your lives. Continue to show up. You are brilliant, capable, and full of promise. I hope our paths will continue to cross.
To our families: Thank you for your partnership, your support, and the love you pour into your
children. You make a difference.
To my colleagues: thank you for walking this path with me, for the laughter, the long talks, the
collaboration, the disagreements and the unwavering dedication to our students and to each other.
Remember: “Whatever you want more of, give it away.”
Want more laughter? Give it away. Be the one who brings joy to the room.
Want more peace? Give it away. Be the calm voice in a storm.
Want more grace? Give it away. Show compassion even when it’s not earned.
And if you want more love, don’t wait for it—be the one who gives it first.
The life that matters most is one spent giving and growing, not gathering. Life expands when you
give—your character, your joy, your impact—they all grow.
As I turn the page to begin a new chapter, a piece of my heart remains with this incredible
community. St. Augustine has not just been a place of work for me — it has been a home, a classroom of life, and a source of immeasurable joy.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Kari
