We are pleased that you are considering the Kindergarten program at our school. Our program goals are designed to help your child grow spiritually, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We use a hands-on approach to build literacy and numeracy readiness for Grade 1. We also encourage 21st century learning through the use of technology, and foster critical thinking, analyzing and questioning skills. Most importantly, we want your child to grow in Christ and develop a love of learning!
During our lessons, we nurture whole-child growth by engaging in discussions, listening to music, telling stories and using manipulatives and visuals. The majority of our learning is done through play exploration and hands-on activities. Through our religious foundations, our kinders learn how to engage in positive social interactions with peers and adults. They become independent, respectful, generous, compassionate and kind friends through Jesus.
Our classroom is designed to aid your child’s natural need to move. For example, we have stability balls rather than chairs, which help build core muscles and “get the wiggles out.” We are also fortunate to offer speech/language and occupational therapy services to our students if necessary. Individual program plans are created to ensure your child’s needs are being met and include meaningful activities that enhance your child’s learning experience, whether it be one-on-one assistance, or enrichment activities.
Here is a brief outline of our daily program:
- Entrance activity, prayer, and circle time
- Literacy lesson and activity centers- alphabet/word games, printing, reading
- Numeracy lesson and activity centers- number sense, patterns, measurement
