Extracurricular

Athletics

St. Augustine offers a variety of sports and extracurricular activities for our students. We are proud that we offer plenty of opportunity to be involved on sports teams. Our teams philosophies are generated around the idea that all athletes are student athletes; our coaches and teachers work together in making sure that every athlete stays on top of their academics as well as have fun being involved in our school athletically. We offer sports such as, volleyball, basketball, badminton, track and field and curling. We are very proud that at our school the majority of our teams are coached by our teachers which means that students get to know their teachers on a level outside of the classroom.

Swimming

St. Augustine students can learn to swim with Red Cross swimming lessons that are offered through the school’s physical education program. Students in Kindergarten – Grade 6 participate in the swimming program.

Skiing

Elementary

Students in grades two through six have the opportunity to participate in an optional skiing program at Canyon Ski Hill in Red Deer. The students are bussed to the ski hill where they enjoy a day on the slopes. Students are grouped according to ability and lessons are provided by qualified staff at the ski hill. The ski program provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn a new sport or improve their skills.

Ski Trips

St. Augustine School is pleased to offer a day ski/snowboard trip to Nakiska for the Grade 7 – 12 students. Typically the skiers leave the school early in the morning and travel by bus to Nakiska for a full day of skiing or snowboarding. The ski trip provides a great opportunity for students to improve their skills on a first class hill.

Skills Canada

Skills Canada Alberta Competitions challenge high school and post-secondary students to reach for their personal best in a variety of trade and technology competitions.

They bring together experts from industry and education to create innovative challenges that will test your skills, and connect you with likeminded students and mentors who have a passion for excellence.

Competing in a Skills Canada Competition shows current and future employers that you are up for a challenge, and are worth investing in because you are committed to investing in yourself.

Students have opportunities to compete in Carpentry, Fabrication (welding), Culinary Arts and Cosmetology. Past competitors have described the Skills competition as “a great learning experience”.
