Catholic Education Week is May 5-10, 2024
Every year through the celebration of Catholic Education Week, we give thanks for the gift of Catholic education, which has served nations for centuries by teaching students in their faith. This year, the theme of Catholic Education Week in Alberta is Courage to Lead.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
The mission of Edmonton Catholic Schools is to provide a Catholic Education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another.
We are thankful for the opportunity to provide a faith-based education to more than 47,000 students, and for the teachers, administrators, parents, students, priests, and parishioners who are committed to Catholic education.
In Alberta, we acknowledge with deep gratitude and embrace with unwavering resolve the gift of publicly funded Catholic education. Read more about Catholic Education Week in the letter from the Bishops of Alberta
Wear Blue on Thursday, May 9
Every year, 40 days after Easter on Ascension Thursday, Catholics worldwide give thanks for the gift of Catholic education through the celebration of World Catholic Education Day.
Catholic education has served nations for centuries by teaching students about their faith. World Catholic Education Day is a time for Catholics around the world to take a moment to pause, reflect, and pray on the gift that is Catholic education.
You are invited to wear blue in support of Catholic education on Thursday, May 9.
Catholic Education Week 2024 Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you
for the precious gift of Catholic Education.
As we celebrate Catholic Education Week,
give us the grace to carry out our daily tasks
with a positive attitude and an eagerness
to learn more about you.
Help us to walk confidently in your footsteps
so we can courageously lead others to your loving heart.
We ask this in the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen
