Getting Social

Social media, it’s the bane of every parent’s existence and the one thing parent’s struggle to talk to their kids about in this modern age. So, what is the solution? Enter “Jo(e) Social”, a professional social media agency who teach kids and parents how to have productive, meaningful conversations about social media. In the words of the Jo(e)’s “parents are getting it wrong, and they are getting it wrong for one simple reason… they didn’t have us.” Starting conversations and listening to our kids is important. According to Jo(e) Social the solution to the “social media problem” is not to stop using social media because social media is not the problem, the people who use it are the problem. The reality is kids and adults not only use social media differently, but also use entirely different platforms. How are we supposed to have conversations about something we know little to nothing about? By becoming informed and asking the right questions to the right people. So, who are the right people? The right people are the ones using the platforms the most, our kids.

St. Augustine kids and their parents were invited to join Jo(e) Social on Monday night at the St. Augustine School library to learn about having these conversations with their kids. This was a follow up to the presentations earlier the same day the Jo(e)’s had with Grade 5 and 6 students. The students also enjoyed their visit to the PYC where they experience some of the activities and games available there.
