Lent 2022 Principal Message

Yesterday, March 1, 2022 was a beautiful day in so many ways. Carpet time returned to classrooms, collaborative student pods popped up, pancakes were served by students, there were squeals and laughter of regular recess with all friends and some students saw an entire smile for the very first time.

Interestingly enough, we begin our journey towards Easter, renewing our faith through prayer, fasting and almsgiving, revealing love for God, ourselves and our neighbors. This pilgrimage over the next 40 days is significant. We may feel that we have experienced two years in the desert, giving up things and living in self denial. Covid has taught us many things: the importance of connections, of traditions, of unstructured play of small and large things that make us feel alive. The pause in self reflection is important as we begin the next part of our journey.

In Lent, we are increasingly concerned with “speaking words of comfort, strength, consolation and encouragement, and not words that demean, sadden, anger or show scorn” (Fratelli Tutti, 223). Faith calls to us in every moment; Lent is the perfect time to reply with a fully open heart, growing closer to Jesus. .
