Red Dress Day 2025

This May 5th we observed MMIWG as a school.  A group of Indigenous students from grades 7-12 created a presentation to raise awareness in our students.  Paige Kinnard created a photo shoot for some of our grade 11 and 12 students to use in the presentation.

Also known as Red Dress day, the goal of the day is to honour and bring awareness to the thousands of Indigenous women and girls, and two-spirit people who have gone missing or who have been murdered.

The Red Dress Day was inspired by Métis artist Jamie Black in 2010 who hung hundreds of empty red dresses in public places to represent missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and to bring awareness to the issue.

The red handprint signifies the silencing of Indigenous voices and the need for government action. We are praying for the missing and their families.
