APEGA Science Olympics at Red Deer College
St. Augustine brought 3 junior and 1 senior team to compete at the APEGA Science Olympics on May 4, 2019. Students in teams of 3 to 5 were given a series of problem-solving challenges that demonstrate the fun side of engineering and geoscience. Students had to use their innovative ideas and teamwork to create solutions to the various challenges throughout the day. For example, one challenge was to design a way to capture garbage from a large area on the floor, without harming wildlife in between the team and the garbage pile. Students were given a random selection of materials to build a garbage capture device and a time limit to build it.
Of the 16 teams that completed at APEGA from Central Alberta, St. Augustine took home both silver and gold. Students were awarded with medals and Indigo gift cards.
